There’s no doubting the incredible popularity of caravanning in recent year. Sales figures of travel trailers have soared and travel trailer parks are getting busier and busier especially in the summer months and school holidays. It’s estimated that there are around half a million travel trailers currently in use in the UK for leisure and holidaying purposes only, and it seems there are more and more parks opening in every county in the UK. Many celebrities have also come out with their love for travel trailer holidays which has increased its popularity and exposure even greater.
So why is it so popular? There are numerous reasons and most is down to personal choice. Let’s create a scenario, you have a family of three young kids and two dogs, can you imagine the hassle involved in taking everyone including the pets abroad on a plane and how much it would cost, with a travel trailer you can throw everyone in the car including all your clothes, all that’s left to do is drive to your location and you’re done. So the simplicity and the lower cost involved is a deciding factor for some people. Another motive is the flexibility that a travel trailer offers its owners, after all it goes wherever you go, and therefore you can go anywhere or stay at different locations around the country.
The flexibility of the travel trailer itself is also an enjoyable factor, you can have a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living area all designed by you, this means you can create a comfortable home from home. The travel trailers makers have spotted the rise in popularity and have subsequently making higher quality travel trailers which also increases their popularity, but the quality of the travel trailers doesn’t stop there, another factor contributing to the hike in popularity is the increasing quality of the actual parks with more and more amenities being introduced to make their visitors’ stay more welcoming and comfortable. Some people’s reasoning can be as simple as a fear of flying or sea sick.
Of course with every success story there has to be a downside, because there is no so much demand and popularity, the theft of travel trailers has also soared, with around 4,000 being stolen every year. Police are busy advising owners on how best to protect their travel trailer and the personal property inside. Also travel trailers and their owners can get a bad reputation and leave themselves open to critics who don’t approve of the lifestyle, they are often labelled as boring and slow drivers which tarnishes some people’s enjoyment.
There doesn’t seem to be a limit on how popular travel trailers can become with all their different uses, whether it be for working away, living or holidaying people enjoy personalising their travel trailer and make it their own. We can also take a guess that the travel trailers and the parks will continue to improve in quality and we hope people can start to become more accepting.
