Class C

Class C motorized trailers are becoming increasingly visible on the roadways. These trailers are constructed on standard van chassis measuring between 20 to 31 feet in length. Basically, the entire front section of the class C motorized trailer mimics that of a standard van or pickup truck. Located in this front section is the trailer’s engine, doors, driver navigational area and dashboard.

Class C Travel Trailer

This class of motorized trailers is more commonly referred to as a “mini motor home” or “cab over” vehicle. Cab over refers to the section located just above the driver seat. This section houses an area that can be used for storage or sleeping. It is up to the discretion of the driver of the trailer as to what it used for.

The mini motor homes are considered to be self contained units. This means that home based functions of refrigeration; hot water systems; and indoor plumbing systems are housed on board the trailer. A standard 12 volt electrical connection allows for the use of various electrical components on board as well. This eliminates the need for driver to plug into an external power supply in order to maintain electricity. Select versions of the class C motorized trailer go one step further by maintaining a 110 volt generator to provide electrical supply.

Manufacturers add a little more to the development of these trailers each year. Where the older versions were constructed using a standard van chassis base, newer models now utilized heavy duty full size truck chassis for a foundation. These heavy duty chassis are derived from Chevy, Ford and, in some cases, freightliner truck bases. Along with the larger sized chassis comes the need for diesel fuel to power the trailer. The average cost of a class C motorized trailer is £21,500.

The vast array of chassis options opens the door for manufacturers to load up all the comforts of home into a class C motorized trailer. The larger chassis can handle more slide out sections without making the trailer top heavy. With the larger chassis comes a variety of design layouts and floor plans. This lets the customer add an endless amount of accessories to the trailer without consuming a great deal of space.

There are two essential elements that rank at the top of the list when considering purchasing a class C motorized trailer. These elements are chassis capacity and wheelbase. Another thing to take into consideration is the engine size of the trailer. Decide before hand what the main purpose of the class C trailer is in order to select the most efficient engine size to handle that job.

Consider things such as how many passengers will be aboard at any given time. Then think about where each passenger can safely be seated. Knowing these key pieces of information in advance will better equip you with knowing what size motor will allow for the safest and effortless travel for all aboard the trailer.

There are many customizable features available for class C motorized trailers. The attraction of these trailers is allowing one to bring all the comforts of home along on a road trip. That road trip can be for personal or business uses. Once a trailer is selected, the next stop is the open road!
